Summer Camp '97
Work-Exchange Program

Last Update: July 15

Back to Rates

We were unable to meet our financial obligations last year beacause we gave work exchange credit to whomever requested it. We have learned that even in New Culture one must be financially accountable and responsible and so we are limtiting our work exchange hours to what makes sound financial sense within our budget and meet or needs. Besides, SC is a real bargain anyway.

Update
July 15th

Work exchange is still available on many levels (we seem to have undersold our need). There are opportunities starting now on weekends at the camp site; there will be four to six days prior to SC'97 available. And lastly, there are positions available during SC. There are two sign-up already for registration, but other positions are available, including (especially) the kitchen. Currently our thinking is for four-hour shifts during SC, and we will make a sign-up sheet available onsite so people can choose when they work on a first come, first serve basis, or write us with your request.

The minimum fee is $15.00 per day, with W-E making up the difference. For the entire camp session, that comes to $135 for 9 days. Read below for further details...

We have approximately 450 hours of work prior to SC, along with about 200 hours available during the 9 days.

Pre- Summer Camp

The following dates are available for up to four people per day to help clean up the campsite and prepare for the throngs: Every Saturday starting June 28th, and continuing to August 3rd. We start at 10 AM, and work until 5 PM, with an hour for lunch (bring a hearty sack lunch), for six hours per day. You MUST have submitted your Waiver and Registration form, submitted the minimum registration of $15 per day, and have signed up with Bill (EmeraldElf!Prodigy.Net) if you wish to work one of these Saturdays.
Preference will be given to those wishing to register for the whole SC'97. Then it's first-come, first-serve.

During Summer Camp

Additionally, we will be needing people in the following areas during SC'97: Specifics regarding these ten to fifteen positions will be posted here as soon as we more fully define our need. But do sign up now, since these will be 'FCFS.' Email Keith with your request, and get your Waiver and Registration form in toute de suite!

Additional Details

We will not be offering full tuition assistance, only supplementary aide. The minimum fee per day is $15.00. You may earn the rest of your registration fee by working. We pay $7.50 per hour. Factor this into your arrival time and workshop preferences.

Lastly

There may be opportunities added to this list, so check back here often. Watch the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.

We have a very full schedule of presenters and workshops, and are not accepting any formal work exchange for additional events. If you would be interested in presenting next year, however, please do be in touch with us. We strive to continually improve the quality and timeliness of our annual offering. In addition we are considering major presentations in Porland (too big for the intimate "community" space at SC) during the rest of the year.
