Keynote Address
- Sunday, Aug. 8
"The promise and perils of living in harmony with each other and the Earth."
![]() |
This year's Summer Camp keynote will be a lively part-presentation/part
interactive workshop, focusing on the most recent and groundbreaking
information emerging about what sustainability means, in ecological and
human terms. We will - not necessarily in this order - explore the
topics of consciousness growth, tribal cultures, the perennial
philosophy, Ken Wilber's Integral model, community living, service,
money-and-the-globalized-economy, the current state of the world, and
social change. Be prepared to have fun and to be challenged! (Please
check your pre-conceptions at the door.)
Nonviolent Communication
- Tuesday, Aug. 10 Alan Seid & Tricia King are both Trainers in Nonviolent Communication™, and certified in Permaculture Design. They are students of sustainability tools and practices, inner and outer, individual and collective, and are establishing a skills learning center on 25 acres near Bellingham, Washington. They have a private practice, offering trainings, consulting, and mediation for couples and organizations. Alan and Tricia's workshops are lively, inclusive, engaging, fun, and interactive. They strive, as early as possible in a program, to get people practicing the process on real situations in their lives, where they've seen that people experience the power of the process the most. |

The Courage To Be Bodhisattvas
or Why Queer Feminist Family Values Rock All Our Worlds - Friday, Aug. 13
![]() |
Bodhisattvas are folk who could have crossed over into eternal bliss but
stay here on this earthly plane because they know that none of us are
free until we all are free, that we will only achieve true liberation
all together. When the loving bodhisattva compassion is paramount,
the illusory divisions of sexual orientation, gender, race, class
etc. become irrelevant.
Are we there yet? Well no. So what can we do to make this liberation-land more likely by the ways we live our daily lives, by the special ceremonies, celebrations and learning experiences we co-create? Spend a day of discovering the goddess and the 'other' within us, along with concrete ways to actualize our wildest peace and reconciliation dreams within this unjust, violent 'real world.' Loraine Hutchins, Ph.D. co-edited Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out, the book that catalyzed the U.S. bi movement and is still rocking worlds over a decade later. She also co-starred in Betty Dodson's first video, Selfloving: Portrait of a Women's Sexuality Seminar and co-founded BiNet USA: The National Bisexual Network. A feminist wiccan who believes in the erotic core of all religions, she earned her doctoral degree in queer feminist sacred sexualities. She works as a sex educator and sex coach in the Washington, DC area; specializing in serving large people, elders, people with disabilities and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender folk with increasing their sexual satisfaction and pleasure and is working on a new book on this work called "Harlots & Healers." |

In this session, Robert Silber will describe his personal journey which
has focused on protecting and regenerating ecological systems. We will
look at how our work can be a form of yoga, whether puttering in a garden
or organizing a community to protect their watershed.
In the afternoon session, Robert will lead campers thru a gardening yoga exercise activity that will result in the creation of a valuable addition to our host's landscape. Robert Silber has worked as an organic farmer and gardener, permaculture landscape consultant, political organizer with the Sierra Club and other national environmental organizations, and is currently the Allegheny Riverkeeper. He is located in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. |

Playback Theatre
- Tuesday, Aug. 17 | |
![]() |
Playback Theatre is a form of improvisational theater where participants
become tellers and actors for each other, sharing real life
moments, feelings, and stories, and then witnessing them played
back through the actions of the other participants. In this full day
workshop we will explore the themes of Summer Camp as a way
to learn the basic forms of Playback Theatre, then play for each
other in the evening.
Judy Dolmatch, MSW, is a nationally certified practitioner of psychodrama and group psychotherapy. She has worked in mental health settings for 25 years, and conducted trainings in psychodrama, action methods, and improvisational theatre for public and professional groups. She founded the Rogue Valley Playback Theatre in 1995, and has been a Summer Camp presenter each year since SC'01. |
| Conscious Sexual Choices - Thursday, Aug. 12 | |
![]() |
What is it about something so delicious that has the potential to
create such havoc in so many lives? The choices we
make are not always aligned with our beliefs or our desires. Or we may
be free of conflict within ourselves but not aligned with our partners.
This experiential presentation is designed to help us become more
conscious about our own choices and judgments; to help us to look at
whether or not we want to explore more options, change our current
patterns or affirm our current choices.
Sharon Byrd facilitates conflict resolution and a monthly Human Awareness Institute (HAI) support group. She also presents at HAI community nights. She believes that we are on this human journey to learn to love, and delights in creating experiential opportunities for others to find expanded ways to dive more deeply into the experience of loving. Sharon brings her joyful heart, mind and humor to all that she does. |

- Wednesday, Aug. 11
Boundaries, Negotiations and Sexual Etiquette for a New Culture

Our facilitator Teri Ciacchi will lead us through a series of exercises
and large and small group dialogs about: 1) How to set personal
boundaries that discourage fusion and encourage autonomy 2) How to
identify what you want 3) How to clearly communicate your needs
and desires in a manner that invites others to help you meet them and
reciprocate 4) How to release shame and embarrassment around sexual
desires and body acceptance 5) How to talk openly, honestly and
authentically about sex 6) How to politely ask others to meet your
sexual needs. Now doesn't that sound fun?

| Facilitation - (various times/events) | |
![]() | Rotraud Rospert is an experienced facilitator and a leader at the ZEGG Community in Germany. Rotraud will lead forums, plus facilitate women's groups and "art actions" throughout the camp. |
| Auction | |
![]() | Expect to be amused and surprised by the variety of unusual items and services donated by fellow campers for bidding. Previous auctions have included such offerings as "1000 kisses" and "a morning serenade". Auction proceeds help to provide scholarships and improve future camps. |
| Sensual Feast | |
![]() | Imagine a table loaded with succulent fruits, candies, and nuts; and in the center are large bowls of chocolate sauce and whippped cream for dipping. But there's a catch - the one rule is that you may not feed yourself! Serving, and being served, are the watchwords of this event. The result is a delicious combination of sensory input: music, movement, people, touch, and yummy treats. |
| Forum | |
![]() |
The Forum is a group process developed at ZEGG to provide a stage for
whatever is happening inside the person: one's true motivations, deep
feelings, ideas and emotions. The Forum helps facilitate transparency,
sharing and clarifying unsolved situations of daily life, and it can
be a catalyst for one's own personal growth.
For a detailed examination of the development and use of this process at ZEGG, see What is the ZEGG Forum? in our document library section. |
| 7-Minute Date Marathon | |
![]() | In this popular camp event, campers get an opportunity for several spontaneous "dates" of only 7 minutes duration. The pace of the event can promote higher levels of transparency, and the spontaneous nature often facilitates unexpected connections. |
| Fishbowl | |
![]() | The Fishbowl is a type of discussion group where only some members participate (often either just men or just women), while the others observe silently from the perimeter of the room. This provides a unique sharing opportunity for the participants and an equally unique learning opportunity for the observers. |
| Lighter Side | |
![]() | Participants create and perform skits to illustrate humorous events that they have observed or experienced at camp. |
| Lady Luck | |
![]() | Lady Luck is a game of chance where campers pull a name from a hat to spend some time getting to know someone new or coming to know someone already familiar even better. |
